Foundation Stage: Kusama & Riley Classes

Welcome to Foundation Stage Kusama Class and Riley Class

In Foundation the children are taught and supported by Ms Platt (Kusama Class Teacher), Mrs Coan (Riley Class Teacher) and a team of teaching assistants, Mrs Long, Mrs Watt, Mrs Elliott, Mrs Lee and Mrs Printer, who work across both classes.

Each half term, EYFS staff introduce a new theme to provide inspiration for learning, whilst providing the flexibility for children to follow their own interests and ideas. Children learn through a balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and our aim is to encourage a love of reading right from the start. Children are taught to read in a systematic way and we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds scheme.

Our wider curriculum is taught through a combination of adult planned learning and child initiated learning. Exciting, purposeful and contextual activities are planned to build on children’s natural curiosity. For example, building a boat for their favourite toy enables them to think like a ‘Scientist’ and ‘Engineer’ as they explore a range of materials and test out their own ideas. Our aim in Foundation is for the children to build the skills, knowledge and confidence to continue their journey as scientists, historians, artists and geographers.

Please check our Google Classroom for any updates and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
